Good Bye John Bateman

We recently lost our friend John Bateman. You know, we never referred to him as just John -- it was always and by everyone - John Bateman. I really don't know how to express how sad we feel. But, his step daughter, and our dear young friend, Rebecca put out these words, so I thought I would share:

We never know where life is going to go,
Nor what turns it'll take as we grow.
Sometimes, there are surprises and unexpected shifts,
Some are heartbreaking, and some are gifts.
But there's not much you can do, but simply hold on,
And accept that what is done, is one
And if tomorrow you were to walk back through that door,
There'd be so many things into your soul I'd pour
And remind you of what you had here at home, where you belong.
This is all so unexpected; you were the one to always be so strong
Everyone questions the mistakes they could have fixed while you were still here,
But I know the last thing you wanted was for any of us to shed one tear.
Each memory and place you took us, will outlive the life you left behind
The vacations we took, and the laughs we shared, I doubt will leave anyone's mind.
The camping trips, the plane trips and the road trips we endured
Leave stories and good times the camera never quite captured
Not a day will pass us by without missing you more than the last
Maybe the hardest part is knowing your end came too fast.
But whatever it was you were looking for, I hope you found
Because there's no doubt in my mind its heaven you are bound.

Will Run for Beer

Tomorrow is the Rockies 5K Run (walk for me). We've made this an annual event, but this year we will miss Luke and Karen joining us. So, Bob and I, Mark and Deb will be hooking up and doing the run. Deb runs, the rest of us walk. Well, attached on the bib is a little coupon that is good for a free beer afterwards. We always have to spend so much time trying to get coupons off the kids! Begging gets old..... this year, I just copied a few coupons! How do you like that? ha ha ha ha. The beer tastes SO GOOD after a long walk :)

Happy Birthday Mom

Today is my Mom's birthday. Happy Birthday to you, Mom :)
I sent an email to my sisters this morning saying that, and here is our correspondence:
My email:
I still miss her!
Barb's response:
Yes. I was just telling my co workers that today is my Mom's birthday. She would have been 86! I can't imagine her being that old! "Don't getold and don't get fat".
Cindy's response:
I still miss her too!
Kate's response:
Yes – me too! Every day!

So, happy birthday to MOM! We love you and miss you.

Kentucky Derby

So, Bob and I donned our hats and tuned in to watch the Kentucky Derby. (I don't wear hats, and the cowboy hat is the only thing I could think of to wear!) But, there is a story to this...... One day this week in our local newspaper there was a coupon for the dog tracks. The coupon was for free admission, plus you got a free program, hotdog and soda! Well, we are big dog track enthusiasts -- so, off we head to the dog tracks Saturday (yesterday) afternoon. On the way, Bob mentioned that it might be kind of busy due to the Kentucky Derby. Well, he sure was correct -- the place was packed! Well, there were so many people there, long lines for betting -- and the beer/hotdog line was crazy! We only stayed until around the 5th race, but in that time we both managed to eat our huge, gross, disgusting hot dogs and have a couple of beers! Before we left, I wanted to make a bet on the Kentucky Derby. Bob picked 2 horses (10 and 20), and I picked #5 - Eight Bells to show. The reason I picked this horse.... #5: Bob's Birthday, Eight Bells: for my Mom Sybella and the jockey's name was Larry (my brother)! So, we make our bets and home we go to watch the Derby. If anyone watched the race, the rest is history. Eight Bells ends up taking 2nd place - I WIN! The only problem is that immediately after taking 2nd place, Eight Bells falls to the ground. Turns out, this horse broke both ankles at end of the race -- they immediately euthanized it!!! So sad -- my victory turned to sadness. I don't even know if I can turn in my winning ticket - it just doesn't seem right :(
